Haggis & Cheese
Oct 3rd, 2008 by Mark Chesterfield
Haggis is fantastic!
This is Scotlands national dish and very much part of the Robert Burns ceremonies. A poem was created in honour of the Haggis by Robert Burns which is known as the “Address to the Haggis” and presented in the Scots language. Originally, a dish made from mutton meat combined with liver, heart and lungs of the sheep and a mix of cereals and spices. This was the “poor mans” dish as was the origins of whisky!
Today we have several variations on the haggis theme, which are made from lamb meat or as a vegetarian recipe. We can supply McSweens Haggis from Edinburgh to our Swiss customers throughout the year. The selection of Haggis vary in size from small party portions to ceremonial “Chieftains”. Please consider that Haggis orders are in big demand during November and January of each year due to St. Andrews parties & Burns tributes. Please order in advance to guarantee delivery.
Cheese and whisky is a marriage made in heaven!
The Swiss love British Cheese! And so they should. When you have a chance please try to savour the flavours of a Scottish malt whisky combined with some delicious cheese from Switzerland or Britain. The Cheeseclub in Thalwil and Flums import a wonderful selection of British cheeses into Switzerland. Maybe you are an expat missing some English, Scottish, Welsch or Irish cheeses? Mike and Astrid selects very carefully the cheeses from the UK and most come from small farms and producers. See www.cheeseclub.ch for more information or contact Mike on 044 720 4919 (shop).
One Response to “Haggis & Cheese”
Hello, Indeed it is fantastic and I’m looking to order just wee teeny
party sized haggis if you offer such a thing.
Actually looking to serve it all dressed in it’s finery as an apero and very much hope you can help me out, despite it being the busy month of November??
I can easily pop in to collect, although if you offer a mailing service, even better
Look forward to hearing from you,
Kind regards,
Lesley Gower
